This 10-day tour blends the cultural richness of Morocco’s Imperial Cities with the breathtaking landscapes of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert, culminating in an unforgettable New Year’s celebration under the desert stars.
Your Moroccan adventure begins with your arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK). After a private transfer to your traditional riad accommodation, you will have time to settle in and relax. As the evening approaches, immerse yourself in the intoxicating atmosphere of the Jemaa el-Fnaa square, the city's main public space, as it transforms into a bustling hub of food stalls, storytellers, and musicians.
Today is dedicated to exploring the highlights of the "Red City." A guided tour will take you to architectural marvels like the Koutoubia Mosque, the elegant Bahia Palace, and the historic Saadian Tombs. You will also navigate the labyrinthine Souks, where you can practice your bartering skills for spices, leather goods, and handicrafts. In the evening, enjoy a specially arranged Christmas Eve dinner at your riad or a fine hotel, marking the start of your festive holiday.
Your journey takes you over the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains. This is a day of stunning, often snow-dusted, winter scenery. The drive leads to the historic Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a famous backdrop for many films. You will tour this ancient fortified village before continuing to the Skoura Oasis or Ouarzazate for your overnight stay.
The road today is known as the "Route of 1000 Kasbahs." You will travel through the lush Valley of Roses and explore the magnificent sheer cliff walls of the Dades Gorges and the towering Todra Gorges. After enjoying a walk through these canyons, the landscape shifts as you drive further east, arriving at the edge of the great Sahara Desert near the dunes of Erg Chebbi, ready for your desert crossing.
Spend the morning exploring the unique culture around the desert town of Merzouga. You will visit a local nomadic family and enjoy the rhythmic spiritual music of the Gnawa people in Khamlia village. As the sun begins to dip, you will mount your camels for a memorable trek deep into the golden Erg Chebbi dunes. Your destination is a luxurious desert camp where you will spend the night.
The morning offers time for desert activities like sandboarding or simply relaxing and soaking in the tranquil environment. Tonight is the main event: a magical New Year's Eve Celebration. You will be treated to a festive Berber dinner, traditional drumming and music around a roaring campfire, and the opportunity to welcome the new year under an unparalleled blanket of desert stars.
Wake up early to witness a spectacular desert sunrise over the vast dunes—a truly unforgettable moment. After breakfast, you will leave the Sahara behind and begin the long but scenic journey north. The route traverses the beautiful palm groves of the Ziz Valley and crosses the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through the cedar forests and the ski resort town of Ifrane before arriving in the ancient Imperial City of Fes.
Experience a full-day guided tour of Fes el-Bali, the world's largest car-free urban area. You will explore the incredibly intricate medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has remained unchanged for centuries. Key visits include the famous vibrant Chouara Tanneries, the historic Al Quaraouiyine Mosque and University, and the beautifully decorated Bou Inania Medersa (religious school).
