Dive deep into Morocco’s cultural history with this tour that takes you through the heart of its cities, from the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen to the ancient medinas of Fes and Meknes.

Itinerary

Upon arrival, we will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel. Accommodation in Fez.
After breakfast, We have a guided tour of the city of Fez: we’ll begin our visit to the oldest of the imperial cities and spiritual center of the country. We’ll start with a panoramic view from one of the hills surrounding the city, then visit the bronze gates of the Royal Palace. We’ll explore the medina on foot, visiting Medersas (Qur’anic schools), workshops in the artisans’ quarter, divided by guilds, and the spectacular tannery district. Accommodation in Fez.
After breakfast, we’ll head straight to Chefchaouen to visit the city, located within a biosphere reserve. Its streets painted in white and blue make it a village of wise, kind, and respectful people, offering beautiful urban panoramas, as well as precious examples of local craftsmanship and a peace and serenity that are hard to find today. After breakfast we will head for Volubilis, driving through Wazan and other villages of the Rif. The archaeological site of Volubilis, the best preserved in Morocco, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997; it has beautiful remains of buildings dating back to Roman times, and wonderful mosaics. After the visit, we will hit the road again heading for Meknes, the smallest of the imperial cities, which lies among fertile plains reaching to the slopes of the Mid Atlas, used to grow cereal crops, grapes, citrus fruit and olives. The visit to the town, with an Italian-speaking licensed guide, will start from the main square (Place el-Hedim), whose beating heart is the beautiful Bab el-Mansour, Morocco’s most imposing imperial gate. After exploring the heart of the medina, we will first go to the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail (also open to non-Muslims, but where appropriate clothing is required) and then to the Granaries and Stables of Hri Moulay Ismail (also known as Heri es-Souani). From Meknez, we’ll drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Africa. The next town will be Azrou, passing through the national park known for its cedar trees where the famous monkeys of the area are found. Next, we’ll travel through the Ziz Valley leading us to Erfoud, known for its fossils. Upon arrival in the desert, we’ll take a camel ride through the desert to reach the heart of the desert where we’ll be welcomed, according to Sahara tradition, with Berber tea, dinner, and a drum party at the Sahara camp.

You’re in the desert! Today, it’s mandatory to wake up early to see the sunrise from the top of the dunes, and then have breakfast. We’ll leave the dunes behind and head towards Tinghir where we’ll visit the Todra Gorges, an ancient sewer system from the 15th century. We’ll also take a look at the palm grove of Tinghir, then continue to the Todra Gorges where we’ll rest. Next, we’ll walk through the city and the Boumalne Dades valley to reach the Dades Gorges. We’ll cross the Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses until we reach Ouarzazate where we’ll visit the Taourirt kasbah and then, after 25 km of road, we’ll see the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for being the setting for film productions like “Lawrence of Arabia”, “The Sheltering Sky” or “Babel”. We’ll follow the road that crosses the Tichka pass (High Atlas) which will lead us back to the “Red City”, Marrakech. Here you can go out at night to have a first contact with the city. After breakfast, we have a guided tour of the city of Marrakech: Starting with the Koutoubia Minaret , sister of the Giralda in Seville, splendid harmony and currently the beacon and spiritual center of Marrakech. Then, we’ll visit the Saadian Tombs highlighting its central vault of Carrara marble. Subsequently, we’ll visit the Bahia Palace , an example of aristocratic life in medieval Muslim times, and where its ambassador’s hall stands out, with its cedar wood ceiling. Then, on foot, we’ll head to the “Jemaa el F’naa Square” declared a World Heritage Site. (The city tour starts around 09:00 and ends around 14:00) Free afternoon Accommodation in Marrakech.

Departure from Marrakech immediately after breakfast. Once you have reached this small town, you will be free to explore it on your own, walking among the many crafts shops (Essaouira is famous for its thuja root handicraft and fabrics), the painting and sculpting galleries, and the spice and argan oil markets. Essaouira is only 170 km away from Marrakech, but its uniqueness, colours and peaceful pace of life make it light years distant from the city frenzy of the “red town”. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, it is constantly caressed by the wind all year round (a favourite destination for the lovers of water sports), it is surrounded by powerful ramparts, and encloses in itself a maze of lanes with perfectly white walls and colourful doors, where cats love lying in the sun and being photographed.
In the afternoon, you can visit one of the several female cooperatives of the Essaouira area, where you will have a chance to buy argan-oil products (natural cosmetics and food). For the lovers of photography, a stop will be appropriate to see the famous climber goats climbing on top of argan trees.
